Bharatiya Janata Party MP and former Cricketer Kirti Azad who spearheaded and exposed the malfeasance in the workings of the DDCA 3 years ago was today suspended by the BJP.
Kirti Azad previously reiterated before a press conference about alleged presence of financial irregularities in the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) during Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's 13 years' tenure till 2013.
Though the allegations of corruption in DDCA came in the forefront of the parliament through the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), it was Kirti Azad's subsequent confirmation to the press which lead to the BJP's renunciation of the former Indian cricketer.
Following the suspension, opposition parties attacked the BJP's decision that he (Azad) had been wrongfully punished for exposing graft in the party. Arun Jaitley had earlier filed a defamation suit against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for falsely accusing him of his involvement in the DDCA scam.
Kirti Azad has played 7 Tests and 25 ODIs in the Indian team from 1980 to 1986.
