In another front to Indo-Pak ties, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Friday that he will meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on his way back to New Delhi.
Atal Vajpayee was the last Indian PM to visit Pakistan in 2004. Since that visit, PM Modi’s visit will be the first by an Indian PM.
Now in Kabul, Modi tweeted that he spoke to Sharif over telephone and wished him on his birthday.
“Looking forward to meeting Sharif in Lahore today afternoon when I will drop by on my way back to Delhi.”
PM Narendra Modi was on a two-day visit to Russia from where he reached Kabul today morning to inaugurate the new Parliament building there. The new building has been made in collaboration with India and also has a block named as ‘Atal Block.’
PM Modi will now be heading to Pakistan while returning from Kabul which will also enable him to wish Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif personally on his birthday.
Later in the evening, Modi will be meeting Former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as it is his birthday as well.
