Lahore: Today, December 25, 2015 will remain a historic day for India and Pakistan. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed here on Friday evening for an unscheduled meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif to wish him on his birthday.
Sharif received PM Modi warmly as he flew into the Allama Iqbal International Airport from Kabul heading a 120-member delegation, a Pakistan channel reported.
It is Modi's first visit to Pakistan, and the first trip by an Indian prime minister to the country in the past 11 years.
Modi was on a two-day visit to Russia where some major agreements were signed between the two countries. From there he left for Kabul and now has arrived in Lahore.
For now PM Modi is headed to Raiwind, the ancestral home of PM Sharif. It is reported that Mr Modi will be blessing Sharif's granddaughter on her 'mehendi' ceremony today.
The decision of this unprecedented visit came as a surprise as there was no such plan of the Indian PM visiting Pakistan. Earlier today Modi tweeted about his visit to Pakistan and informed that he would be wishing Nawaz Sharif on his birthday today.
The news of this sudden detour has raised many eyebrows and people are now waiting for Modi to meet Nawaz after which the reason behind the so called ‘Surprise Birthday Visit,’ will emerge.
