KASHMIR: Re-igniting the debate on ‘One Nation, Two Flags’ the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the government to hoist the State flag on vehicles of constitutional authorities and all official buildings.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led PDP-BJP had issued a circular in March earlier this year, demanding the respect of the state flag by the constitutional authorities and the hoisting of it on official cars. However, the circular was withdrawn a day later apparently due to the pressure by the BJP.
The Jammu CM then echoed the words of Prime Minister Modi for ‘One Nation, One Flag.’ This judgement now has come as a setback for them.
The HC in its ruling has re-asserted the autonomy of Kashmir granted by Article 370 due to which Kashmir enjoys a special position in India. “The state flag is one of the attributes of constitutional autonomy enjoyed by J&K,” Justice Hasnain Masoodi said.
Jammu and Kashmir already has a constitution of its own and now we are going to see once again the entire debate of second flag of the Jammu Kashmir state along with the Indian flag.
