SC issues notice to Advani, other BJP Leaders

NEW DELHI: On a petition that asked for conspiracy charges against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran LK Advani and other leaders in the Babri mosque demolition case, the Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to them.

Advani along with MM Joshi, Uma Bharti and Kalyan Singh have been asked to respond to the notice sent to them within four weeks. 17 other BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders have been issued notices by the top court.

The conspiracy charges against the three were leaders were earlier dropped by the Allahabad Court for 1992 destroying of the 16th century Babri mosque in Ayodhya by Hindu activists.

A petition filed by Mehboob Ahmed, a defendant in the Ayodhya lawsuit wanted to restore those charges.

The apex court has also sent a notice to the CBI which demanded for more time to come up with its affidavit against the orders from the High Court.
