Noida: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a 14-lane Delhi-Meerut expressway here, calling it a national highway to development.
"This is the national highway of development... It will emerge as a major factor for development of western Uttar Pradesh," Modi said.
Emphasising upon the need for proper infrastructure, the PM said, "It’s important to develop proper infrastructure to keep pace with the changing modern times."
"This expressway will generate opportunities for weekend-tourism and create thousands of jobs.", he added.
Modi also said the people in the villages aspire for good roads, as they know it is the key to development."The villagers know if they want development, they first need connectivity through good roads," Modi said. Talking about pollution, Modi said,"During the 1857 revolution our freedom fighters showed us the way to freedom, and now Delhi Meerut Express highway is all set to show us a way to pollution-free India."
Modi also mentioned the Golden Quadrilateral project of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, and also the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in his speech.
