NEW DELHI: The Navy’s guided-missile destroyer INS Mumbai on Saturday evacuated 439 Indians, including a pregnant woman and children, from the port city of Yemen amid ‘war-like conditions’ in Aden.

“Small crafts were hired to move 30-35 Indians at a time from the port to INS Mumbai,” said the Navy.

“Absolute tough environment at Aden… Evacuation of stranded Indians were carried out in almost war-like conditions by Indian Naval Ship Mumbai,” a Navy official said.

The evacuated people including a pregnant woman are being taken care by the Navy personnel.

Meanwhile, INS Sumitra was unable to rescue Indians from Al Mukalla port in Yemen, which has been overrun by Al-Qaeda. It will try and evacuate the stranded Indians on Sunday, said the Navy official.

Almost 2,000 Indians have been rescued from Yemen so far, while the exact number of stranded Indians is unknown.
