The AAP party today held a press conference and attacked the Centre over Delhi Police’s brutal lathi-charge on protesting students at Jhandewalan today in the national capital. These students were demanding justice for Rohith Vemula’s death.
AAP party leader Sanjay Singh alleged that the BJP and RSS supporters along with Delhi Police attacked the protestors and brutally beat them up. "Will Delhi Police work like this," asked Sanjay. Sanjay also reminded PM Modi that power comes and goes; today they are in power but tomorrow they may be in opposition and the same could happen to their party leaders too.
The AAP leader demanded that the Centre should interfere in this matter and take action on this brutal episode.
According to reports, the protestors were inhumanly beaten up by Delhi Police. A certain set of goons unstopped by the police also barged in to protest and bashed the protestors. However, DCP Delhi has claimed that no force was used on the protestors.
DCW chief Swati Maliwal had taken suo-motu cognizance into this incident and has invited the protestors to meet her and explain what actually happened. Maliwal also said that she will issue a notice to Delhi police and questioned why no female cops were present there.
Delhi Police chief BS Bassi said that he has directed senior officials to investigate into the matter and see if there were any indiscretions.
