The Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani today lashed out at Rahul Gandhi accusing him of igniting protests in Hyderabad following the death of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula. The minister took the bitter political battle to a new front by stating that Rahul’s agenda for joining the protesters in Hyderabad was to seek revenge for her contesting from Amethi.

The HRD minister has been at the centre of the nation’s attention ever since the suicide of University of Hyderabad Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula. Asked about Rahul Gandhi’s presence in Hyderabad and the relentless protests being staged by students, the HRD minister said, “The Congress will obviously protest. Rahul Gandhi has to take revenge from me in some way for Amethi. He wants to make education a political playground, and the students, he wants to use them as political fodder.”

“Now when Rahul Gandhi has decided to take revenge for Amethi, so he will obviously search for reasons to protest against me,” said the minister.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier joined the protesters in Hyderabad criticising the govt for turning a blind-eye to the plight of minority students in the country. The Congress vice president also observed a day-long fast, marking the birth anniversary of Rohith Vemula.
