Govt to end air evacuations from Yemen today

NEW DELHI: The government has decided to end the air evacuation as the total number of Indians who were evacuated from Yemen touched 4000 mark today, including 600 from Sana’a.

According to the reports, 600 were rescued by Air India, while over 100 were evacuated from Al Hudaydah by INS Turkish.

The External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson said, “We will end our air evacuation efforts from Sana'a today.”

When asked about any remaining Indians, sources said that 4100 Indians had registered in Yemen and most of them are evacuated, adding government may continue the evacuation operation by sea route for some more time.

11 Indians, who were rescued from Yemen by Pakistani Navy, reached Karachi and are expected to return home today.

On Monday, India had received requests from 25 countries, including US, Bangladesh and Iraq, seeking help to evacuate their citizens from Yemen too

According to the official sources, the evacuation operation was going on notwithstanding the deteriorating situation across Yemen.
