After three days of the JNU students protesting against the capital punishment of Afzal Guru, JNU Students Union President Kanhaiya Kumar has now been arrested. It has come as a massive crackdown on those who had sloganeered for Afzal Guru in the very esteemed and prestigious university of Delhi—Jawahar Lal Nehru University.
Delhi Police Commissioner, BS Bassi commented on the same saying, “The sloganeering and the objectionable things spoken is considered as a transgression of the Indian Penal Code. Some people have been identified and FIR has been lodged in the same.”
Cases of sedition and criminal conspiracy have been filed against the identified people involved in the protest. The police are still working on the identification of the other people present in the video footage.
ABVP students also staged A protest in the JNU campus against it and said that it is the nation which comes first and a certain line should be drawn for everything, otherwise it should be put under the charge of sedition.
ABVP has condemned the act of students staging protest and sloganeering in the favour of Afzal Guru and has demanded the suspension and arrest of the students.
