The Student Union president of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Kanhaiya Kumar, was presented at the Patiala House court as his day four of custody ends today. On Friday he was put into three-day custody as the police said that they wanted to probe his links to terror groups. But Kumar’s custodial interrogation was needed to identify other persons there.
Today Kanhaiya Kumar was produced outside of the courts. The court was taken to another location and the court granted two more days of police custody to the student leader. When he had been produced in court three days ago the police had asked for five days of police custody but the court had granted them three. This time now the court has granted two more days as extension. For now Kanhaiya will remain in police custody for further questioning.
The Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s hint at a larger conspiracy behind the pro-Afzal event at Jawaharlal Nehru University has kickstarted a massive row.
The Union Home Minister said that the event was backed by none other than LeT chief, Hafiz Saeed. The Delhi top cop has said that he is sharing leads with the National Investigation Agency which is welcome to take over the probe any time.
The opposition parties, however, are furious, saying they won’t allow saffronisation of JNU, calling for Rajnath to provide proof and back his claim of LeT penetrating student politics at the university.
