Chennai: After DMK-Congress alliance, another tie-up is on the cards as BJP is likely to join hands with ruling AIDMK for the upcoming assembly elections.
According to sources, talks are on between the two former allies and BJP has received positive response from AIDMK for a possible tie-up. BJP has also conveyed to AIDMK that it wants to fight at least 25 seats as the party feels it has significant influence in the region.
Its important to note that BJP was initially demanding to fight 100 seats. However, the party has scaled down its demand and is now eyeing 60 seats. AIDMK earlier was unwilling to comply with BJP’s demand, but faced with the prospect of an alliance of DMK, Congress and Left, the party seems to be rethinking the issue.
Earlier on Saturday, Congress had entered into an alliance with DMK for the upcoming polls.
Elections to the 234-seat Tamil Nadu assembly will be conducted this year.
