Mumbai: Shiv Sena’s Amit Ghoda was on Tuesday declared elected to the Maharashtra assembly from Palghar constituency, defeating Rajendra Gavit of the Congress, officials said.  Amit won by a margin of 18,948 votes.
 
Amit Ghoda is the son of late MLA Krishna Ghoda of the Shiv Sena. Krishna Ghoda was a three-time MLA who passed away last year, necessiating the election.
 
 
Some of the other candidates who contested were former Sena leader Manisha Nimkar, Chandrakant Vartha of (CPI-M) and Bahujan Mukti Party’s Dileep A Dumada.
 
This year the polling percentage was down. In the 2014 Assembly elections it stood at 68.8 per cent.
 
The by-election took place on Saturday. The BJP did not contest the bypolls.
