New Delhi: A key accused in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) ‘sedition’ incident, Umar Khalid’s father Syed Qasim Ilyas on Friday said his son was being victimised because he is a muslim as police strengthen cases whenever they see a muslim face.
He also made an appeal to his son to come out and face the law, adding that there were several others who are involved in this controversy but it was Khalid who is continuously targeted and called the mastermind of the incident in JNU.
Ilyas said that his son is an atheist who never believed the religious practices followed by his family. Khalid even had many run-downs with his father regarding this matter.
An Intelligence Bureau (IB) report said that Umar Khalid was linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad and that the Pro-Afzal and anti-India event was masterminded by him.
The Delhi Police have launched a manhunt to get nab him and others who helped him. Several raids have been conducted across Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
The Delhi Police has a formed a special team to trace Umar Khalid.
