Expressing their solidarity with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the students accused of making seditious comments, Jadavpur University (JU) students today staged a fresh protest against what they termed a growing “Fascist regime” in the country.
Bearing torches, placards and banners, Jadavpur University students raised slogans such as “We will continue our fight against oppressive regime”, and “We are with JNU”. Torches were lit in the protest to symbolise the torch of wisdom and of light. The students marched across a busy street in front of the campus of the Jadavpur University.
With the arrest of student leader Kanhaiya Kumar from JNU campus and the subsequent manhunt conducted by the police, many universities across India are questioning the government’s tactic of calling shots in the university autonomy.
Umar Khalid and the other students accused of seditious anti-national slogans have resurfaced at the JNU campus. The police, in a bid to arrest these students, yesterday held meetings with the Vice Chancellor of JNU to enter the university premises and arrest these ‘anti-national’ students.
