New Delhi: Purno Agitok Sangma, former Lok Sabha Speaker, passed away on Friday at the age of 68. Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned in the morning to pay respect to the senior leader. Report says Sangma's secretary found him lying unconsciously around 9:30 am. He was then rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on being brought in.
The Lok Sabha is adjourned till March 8th.

Sangma was born on September 1, 1947. He was the Speaker of Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998 and Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990. He, along with Sharad Pawar co-founded the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in 1999 and remained a member of the Lok Sabha for eight terms.
Sangma currently represented the Tura (ST) constituency in the West Garo Hills district in the sixteenth Lok Sabha.
