JAMMU: Amid massive protest over the killing of a youth in Tral district of South Kashmir, separatist leaders Yasin Malik and Masarat Alam were detained on Tuesday while they were on their way to the affected area.
While two people have been injured in the clashes between the protestors and the security forces, some protestors even snatched an AK-47 rifle of a CRPF soldier, reports said.
A youth was killed in a shootout between the Army and terrorists but the relatives of the deceased have accused the Army of a fake encounter. According to the police, they had information of the youth being involved with terror groups and was a top Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist.
The youth killing in the crossfire when the Army tried to confront him led to a massive protest in Jammu and Kashmir. A police investigation is probable of taking place over the matter.
The Army issued a statement claiming that the encounter took place in Kamla Forest on April 13 when terrorists opened fire at the patrolling team and a soldier suffered a gunshot. The firing then continued and a search operation was carried out following that.
According to the reports from Army, a body along with two AK 47 rifles and warlike stores were recovered from the site.
The body was identified to be of the listed over ground worker Khalid Wani, brother of Burhan, Hizbul Mujahideen Commander, reports said which added that one of the rifles found was identified to be snatched from the Jammu and Kashmir Police on August 8, 2014.
The Army added that three youth were also arrested from the area by Police. The trio during the interrogation revealed that Khalid had taken them with him to the place where Burhan and three other terrorists were hiding.
