A video that has gone viral and was showed by local news channels the minister is seen in his visit to the hostel where he speaks to the girls. The questions raised by him during his visit have stirred a controversy as he is being seen as rude and dismissive. The questions he asked the girls are being called disturbing and offensive while the fact that he visited the hostel at night and even went as far as to touch one of the girls' shirt is being seen as further reason for concern. Activists are asking for stern action to be taken against the minister.

S. Sundararaj has defended himself by saying that he did not have any malicious intentions and only wanted to motivate the girls.

“He should be sacked,” said DMK spokesperson, TKS Elangovan. “This is not the way a minister can deal with kids in a school hostel. The questions he had asked [...] shows the calibre of the people that are holding the cabinet berth in this government.”
