Right to puja: Women march towards Trimbakeshwar temple on Maha Shivaratri

New Delhi: Tripti Desai, president of the Bhumata brigade, on Monday mobilised her organisation on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri to march towards the Trimbakeshwar temple. The march is being carried out to demand equal rights for women pertaining to worship in temples. The protesters are marching on the Pune highway to reach Trimbakeshwar temple. 
Desai was the chief architect in the Shani Signapur temple agitation against the centuries-old temple tradition to forbid entry of women in the area where the idols are installed.

This group comprises of labourers, students, homemakers and farmers. This group is known for raising issues for women equality and currently has more than 4,000 members. Tripti Desai was also a part of the Anna Hazare movement.
The police have been informed about the march. On the other hand, some Hindu activist groups have said they would not allow the protesting crowd inside the temple. Meanwhile, Swami Chakrapani of the Hindu Mahasabha congratulated the women who took to the streets in order to fight against discrimination.
