New Delhi: The World Culture Festival being organised by the Art of Living has been given three weeks by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for the payment of the 5 crore fine.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of Art of Living, on Friday succumbed to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order for the Rs 5 crore fine and agreed to pay but sought a week’s time for payment.
Earlier on Friday, there was a massive uproar in the Rajya Sabha regarding the mega event to be hosted at the Yamuna river banks with environmentalists predicting an irreversible damage to the fragile environment on the riverbank.
Ravi Shankar had previously said that he would prefer to go to jail than pay the fine imposed by NGT for environmental violations on the floodplains due to massive constructions before relenting on the day of the event.
The controversial event kicks off at 5pm on Friday and would host an array of high profile dignitaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be a part of the inauguration ceremony.
