JNU panel indicts 'Afzal league'; guilty of communalism, disharmony

New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) probe panel on Wednesday indicted 'Afzal league' for defiance and breaking rules during the February 9 'Afzal Guru' event. The panel has found Anirban Bhattacharya and Umar Khalid guilty of communalism, creating disharmony and raising anti-India slogans.

The JNU report has also found Umar Khalid and Anirban guilty of furnishing fake information.

The report also states that there was a deliberate attempt to mislead the administration about the real nature of the event. It further adds that Kanhaiya Kumar, Rama Naga and Anirban did address the gathering at Ganga Dhaba but what they said was not audible to the witness.

The students have been charged of misconduct and indiscipline in the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, inviting a range of punishments including a fine up to Rs 20,000 and rustication up to two semesters.

The students have been asked to respond by 5 pm today.
