New Delhi: In the invitation of Lord Mahalingeshwara temple car festival, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the other rightwing organizations are demanding removal of Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner (DC), A B Ibrahim.

These organizations are claiming its violation of Section 7 of the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997 that allows only Hindu officers to carry out duties prescribed under the Act.

According to Ibrahim, the invitation was brought out in his capacity as the administrative head of Muzrai temples in the district and till last year it did not become an issue as the temple had a managing committee.

After the quashing of amendments to the Act, Ibrahim became the administrator of the temple.

Meanwhile, MLA Shakuntala Shetty has proposed to reprint the invitation to pave way for smooth conduct of the annual festival without allowing for any discord.
