Deepa Dasmunsi to take on Mamata in Bengal

West Bengal: It’s star wars ahead of Bengal polls. While BJP has pitched in Netaji's grandnephew Chandra Bose, Congress has resorted to its woman power card against Mamata Banerjee. Congress seems to have fallen back on former union minister of state for urban development Deepa Dasmunsi to counter Mamata in the Bhawanipore constituency.
The Congress had earlier proposed to field Om Prakash Mishra to fight against Mamata but later changed its decision and decided to pitch Deepa Dasmunsi. With barely 15 days left for the elections to start in the multi phase in the state of West Bengal. Announcing its second list of 51 more candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury said “Dasmunsi’s name has been sent to the All India Congress Committee, and post clearance she will contest from Bhawanipore constituency.”
“Earlier, no leader was ready to take on the CM from her constituency and I was the only one who volunteered to contest from here. In the last 48 hours, however, there have been several developments which have renewed the vigor of our party members who are now eager to fight against Mamata Banerjee,” Mishra said.
Mishra further added, “She can easily contest from there. As far as I am concerned, I am maintaining a stoic silence in the party till further instruction, but the confusion is definitely killing a lot of campaigning time, which was completely.”
Deepa Dasmunsi was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha. She was elected as an Indian National Congress candidate from Raiganj. She was the Union Minister of State for Urban Development until May 2014.
For Congress it is a political master stroke. The decision was made by Congress after Sonia Gandhi had a word with Deepa Dasmunsi and asked her to take Mamata Banerjee head on. It’s going to be triangular fight.
TMC has been in a lot of controversies especially the recent sting operation which involved prominent leaders taking bribes.  BJP has demanded Mamata Banerjee’s resignation. Today through opposition propaganda, TMC has decided to take out a rally in Kolkata exactly on the same route where the Left Front walked yesterday.
