Avalanche hits Kashmir: One Jawan missing

Srinagar: At least two soldiers were washed away in the avalanche triggered by a mild earthquake near the Indian Army post at 17,500 ft Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Of the two missing soldiers, one has been rescued while the other is still missing.  

The incident happened at around 10.45 pm on March 17.

The rescued jawan is medically stable, according to our correspondent.

Rescue operation continued despite adverse weather conditions. However, the operation could be on halt until day light breaks.

Indian armies deployed in the sensitive mountainous regions of India face the risk of being buried into avalanches and other harsh weather conditions. India lost a number of its jawans recently when a massive avalanche at the Siachen region.
