New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s son and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Monday slammed Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor after he compared JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar to Bhagat Singh.
“Bhagat Singh led a ‘Krantikari’ life and was not of RSS and BJP ideology. Kanhaiya Kumar is a good speaker and the government took action against him, but Shashi Tharoor shouldn’t have made this comparison” Sandeep Dixit said.
Reacting over Tharoor’s comment, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, “They are capable of doing anything.
There is no need to take such people seriously and neither do people take them seriously and that’s the reason why people have bought them from 440 to 40 seats in Lok Sabha.”
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Manoj Jha also spoke on the controversy and said, “Bhagat Singh operated in different contexts and challenges. Kanhaiya and Rohith Vemula also gave certain messages but in a different context; we might agree or not.” Manoj Jha also said that “It is a fact that churning is taking place but these kinds of comparisons are a bit of an exaggeration and I feel that Shashi Tharoor should have refrained from making it.”
Speaking on the ‘JNU and nationalism’ issue outside the administrative hall of the varsity on Sunday, Tharoor while replying to a question from the audience admitted that there were some similarities between Kanhaiya Kumar and Bhagat Singh. The Modi government also lashed out at the Congress and said that it lacked the DNA of nationalism.
