New Delhi: When singer Shafqat Amanat Ali sang the Pakistani national anthem at Eden Gardens followed by Amitabh Bachchan's rendition of the Indian one, the Pakistani singer attracted a slew of criticisms directed at his singing skills and his sentiments about Pakistan.
After Pakistan suffered a loss at Eden Gardens, various Pakistani channels criticised Ali for riddling the national anthem with grave errors. Many accused the singer of defaming the country by mispronouncing certain words in the national anthem. But contrary to the anguish evident in the losing country, there were some technical errors present in Ali's crooning of the national anthem.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Shafqat Amanat Ali defended his performance in the contentious Eden Gardens match by saying that the track was one-second slow and that people seeing his performance live on TV thought that he was lip-syncing the anthem.

On the allegation of his voice breaking into sound from mute in a slow five seconds, Ali said that the sound had not been adjusted in the first five seconds due to the rain demanding immediacy of the match. He also claimed that due to the stadium noise mixing with the anthem, the singer faced a small hurdle which he eventually overcame.
"I haven't forgotten our beloved national anthem," said a crestfallen Ali.
"Audio problem is one of the biggest and most common problem," said Ali to the press. The singer maintained his stance and said that he had not let the technical glitches affect his overall performance.
Shafqat Amanat Ali earlier praised Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan for his performance during the India-Pakistan ICC World T20 match.
After Pakistan's loss to India, enraged fans of men in green broke television sets and condemned Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for his ineffective performance in the match.
