New Delhi: The Members of Legislative assembly from Andhra Pradesh are in for a salary hike if the amneties committee of the legislature accepts the panel recommending that the salary of the legislature be enhanced.
Previously, Telangana MLAs also received a salary hike. The present salary of the Andhra Pradesh MLAs is 95,000 with other perks. Their salaries will now get a 60% hike if the recommendation gets approved. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu gifts his MLAs a salary hike at the time when the state is drought hit and farmers are fighting their survival.
The recommended salary for the legislators is now 1, 50,000. The panel working on the salary hike however says that the request will be considered but the figures have not been announced.
Irony is that measures taken to provide relief to the drought affected farmers is not seen on the ground. The reason given for this salary hike demand is increasing inflation in the economy and its affect on the day to day expenses.
