New Delhi: Reports of Indian Catholic priest, Father Tom Uzhunnalil, who was kidnapped three weeks ago by Islamic State (IS) gunmen, being crucified by the terrorist organisation on Good Friday started doing rounds a few days ago. Meanwhile, the Indian government waits for confirmation of the tragedy on Tuesday as there are no official statements by either the IS or Yemen government.
On March 4, IS-linked terrorists attacked an old home in Yemen, killing at least 15 people and abducted Father Tom and took him to an unknown place. The terrorists had threatened to kill Father Tom earlier in this week, but did so on Good Friday, according to reports.
Christoph Cardinal Scotborn, Archbishop of Vienna, announced the dreadful fate of Father Thomas in an Easter Vigil Mass held in St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.
However, Indian authorities are still trying to locate Father Tom and verify if he is still in IS captivity or has been hacked to death, as the reports suggest. Ministry of External Affairs has spoken to the authorities in Vatican and till now, there is no confirmation of him being crucified or killed.
