Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that his govt is considering imposing serious restrictions over the use of fireworks in places of worship following the recent fire tragedy in Puttingal temple.
“We are not in favor of completely banning firecrackers, but are considering putting restrictions on it. We are also waiting for the decision of the HC on the issue”, Chandy said in an exclusive conversation with NewsX.
The CM also promised that the guilty will be brought to book. “We are waiting for the result of inquiry and will take action against the guilty”, he said.
The accident at the century-old Puttingal Devi Temple complex had occurred during a competitive display of fireworks early Sunday morning after a spark from a firecracker fell on the storehouse containing crackers, triggering a massive explosion. The accident had killed over 100 and injured more than 300 people.
