New Delhi: People of India on Friday extended greeting to each other on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami 2016. The festival is being celebrated with enthusiasm all across the country.
The Hindu festival Ram Navami is observed to celebrate the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu. Ram Navami is observed on the ninth day of the chaitra month in the Hindu calendar.
Lord Rama was born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya of Ayodhya. To celebrate Lord Rama birthday, devotees offer special prayers to Lord Rama and the epic, Ramayana is chanted in temples.
In certain parts of India the day is also believed to be the wedding anniversary of Rama and Sita. Therefore, wedding ceremonies named Sitaeama Kalyanam or Kalyanotsavam are held at South Indian temples. Another highlight of the festival is preparation of Panakam, a sweet drink made with jaggery.

Let us on this day resolve to follow at all times in our lives the highest moral and ethical values,” he said.
