Srinagar: A Kashmiri girl who had earlier claimed to have been molested by the Army in the city, on Friday clarified her stance and said that it was not army personnel who harassed her but it was in reality a gang of locals. She also said that locals instigated the mob against the security.

Pakistan agencies had also pointed fingers at Indian army for molestation. However, the victim herself has blamed local students and not the Army. This clearly shows that the Army has been under a maligning campaign by anti-social elements.

“I told them I didn’t do anything. They slapped, abused me. The accused didn’t let go of my bag. Then Shafiq uncle took my bag and asked me to leave,” narrated the victim.

The incident revoked sharp reaction from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ram Madhav who said that there was an attempt to incite violence in Handwara and that the Army did not commit any atrocity.
