Deogarh, Odisha: A bus carrying around 40 members from Rourkela to Bargarh fell into a 300-foot-deep gorge in Kailash valley in Odisha’s Deogarh district on Sunday evening which killed 27 people, including women and children.
The bus was carrying members of Bharati Gananatya, a local jatra group. The group was returning after a performance in Dengurjhar village under Paniposhi gram panchayat of Tileibani block.
The cause of the incident is still unknown, but officials suspect technical snag as a possible reason.
The Deogarh Superintendent of Police said that twenty seven bodies were recovered from the accident site.
Deogarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarah Sharma, who reached the scene, said: “Although the exact number of casualty is yet to be confirmed, it may touch 30.”
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident and ordered to expedite rescue operation. He directed the administration to ensure free medical treatment to the injured.
