New Delhi: A day before the second budget session Congress has taken a stand on Ishrat Jahan encounter, Congress politician Kapil Sibal in a presser, referred to the encounter as fake and raised questions.
Sibal said the encounter in which three others were killed with Ishrat was carried out on June 15, 2004 and the charge-sheet was filed in the year 2013, but the trial is still stalled.
"In the Magisterial enquiry that was initiated in the case found that the encounter was fake. He added that, “The weapons used to kill Ishrat and others in the encounter were 9mm pistols and AK-56 rifles and the rounds were fired from a very close range.”
Sibal further added," When the entire matter reached the High Court the court ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe in the case. While choosing the SIT members one member was chosen by the Gujarat government. However the SIT also confirmed that the encounter was fake and following that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry was initiated.
“Ishrat was a terrorist or not will be decided by the court, but it is clear by the enquiries of the Magistrate SIT and CBI that the encounter was fake,” added Sibal.
The questions raised by Kapil Sibal on eve of the Parliament session will definitely ring bells. It would be interesting to see the fashion in which the house functions.
