New Delhi: The Parliament session began with Arjun Charan Sethi sitting in the chair of Lok Sabha
on Tuesday. The main issues to be discussed would be the grants for Railways for 2016-17 and amendments to the Bill. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge initiated the debate. Replying to the allegations tabled by the Opposition, BJP
leader Anant Kumar took the charge of the Centre’s defence. Thereafter, a host of leaders spoke about the key proposals and objections to them.
Here are the Parliament session’s highlights:
5.40 PM: Concluding the session, Railway minister Suresh Prabhu said that there is a complete five year plan for the restructuring, reorganising and rejuvenating the Indian railways. “We have a proper plan for the next five years. We need cooperation from the people to improve the conditions of the trains, Prabhu added.
5.25 PM: JD(U) leader Kaushalendra Kumar says Centre should take lessons from Lalu Prasad. “During Lalu’s tenure, Railways earned adequately good and train fares were also not high”, Kumar added.
4.40 PM: Arvind Ganpat Sawant, Shiv Sena leader, demands for clean toilets in the local trains and suggests that suction trains can help in managing the garbage on the tracks.

3.00 PM: BJP leader Yogi says that the govt’s initiative to connect all the verticals of Railways will soon be fructified. People will be able to move throughout the country more efficiently using the Railways.
2.45 PM: Adityanath said Indian railways has improved its standards since BJP came into power.
“Conditions are improving. People get answers to their queries within no time and this is happening for the first time”, Yogi said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Rajya Sabha was disrupted over the Uttarakhand government crisis and the JNU issue.
There was uproar in the house over the action taken against JNU
president Kanhaiya Kumar and rustication of two other students, Umar Khalid and Anirbhan Bhattacharya. CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury sought a proper debate on the issue.
