Condemning BJP’s moves on the controversial AgustaWestland chopper deal, senior AAP leader Ashutosh questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “silence” on the issue and opened up yet another front against the Centre. Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Dilip Pandey read out a letter in a press conference highlighting party’s concerns.
“Your full majority govt. has not been able to do anything about the opposition. Is the CBI only for Arvind Kejriwal? If you don’t take any step in seven days, we will launch a protest. We will expose your setting with Sonia Gandhi”.
Mr. Pandey lost no time in trying to establish quid pro quo arrangement between the ruling BJP and the Congress, claiming that the Centre did not have courage to arrest Congress’ chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
“When Somnath Bharti’s wife made an accusation against him, he was arrested like a criminal. The Delhi police went after all AAP MLAs. Then why not Sonia Gandhi?”, questioned Mr. Pandey.
Agusta Westland’s Rs 3,600 crore contract for supplying 12 VVIP choppers to the Indian Air Force was scrapped by the UPA government over charges of paying kickbacks to Indian agents. In January 2013, India cancelled the deal and the CBI was assigned to investigate the matter.
The controversial deal triggered a political storm after an Italian court “cited handwritten references” to Sonia and former Air Chief S P Tyagi by a middleman; in a judgement that convicted the helicopter company’s chief executive.
Kejriwal’s offensive is also crucial in the light of the Punjab and Goa elections in 2017 where AAP hopes to make a mark.
