Kerala: Justice for rape victim echoes in Parliament

Kerala:The Left Democratic Youth Federation (LDYF) activists were baton-charged by the police outside the Kerala Secretariat on Wednesday during their protest over the brutal rape and murder of a Dalit law student in Ernakulam district.
Massive protests have been carried out in various parts of Perambavoor, as the state police remain clueless about the suspect. The protests have got a political colour now as most of the protesters are reportedly Left supporters.
Authorities have now come under tremendous pressure to nab the culprits, as the state government says SIT will carry out scientific probe in this matter and the police has launched social campaigns. There has been severe criticism on the delay in investigation in this matter.
Incidentally, it is just 2 weeks to go for the assembly elections. The campaign for the assembly election in Kerala was so far dominated by the war of words between Opposition Leader VS Achuthanandan and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Kerala is completely shocked by the brutality of the rape and murder of Jisha, a 30-year-old LLB student from Perumbavoor, which is being seen as a chilling sequel to the Nirbhaya rape case in New Delhi.
On Tuesday morning, a massive protest was staged in front of the Kerala Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram, seeking justice for Jisha.
Women media persons, women activists and members of women’s wings of different political parties were leading the charge. The central issues raised in the protest were concerns about the safety of women and the indifference of police and public towards attacks against women.
