New Delhi: The verdict is finally in and justice has been delivered after 5 years. All the accused have been found guilty of murder.
Here is a timeline of events in the Keenan-Reuben murder trial.
October 20, 2011: Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez were attacked with knives by a group of youths outside Amboli Bar and Kitchen restaurant in Amboli in Andheri after an argument over the group harrassing some of their female companions. Keenan died on the spot.
October 31, 2011: Reuben succumbs to injuries. The incident shocks Mumbai as bystanders and hotel staff refuse to intervene and help the group as the hoodlums knifed them.
February 8, 2012: The murder trial is shifted to the Fast Track Court at Sewree. Special Public Prosecuor Ujjwal Nikam, who has handled several high profile cases, was assigned to argue the prosecution’s case.
March 19, 2013: The trial was moved to Special Women’s Court because the court tries cases of crimes against women.
December 9, 2011: Keenan and Reuben were posthumously honoured with Godfrey Phillips Bravery Zone Award.
May 5, 2016: The Special Women’s Court pronounces its verdict and declares all four accused guilty of murder. Awards life imprisonment to all four.
