Titlagarh: Odisha's Titlagarh records highest temperature in India; Titlagarh scorching at 48.5 degrees celsius, Titlagarh boils at 48.5 degree celsius... these are the headlines doing rounds on the Internet on Titlagarh town in the state of Odisha.  
Titlagarh has been experiencing extreme heat for the past several days and recently the town recorded its highest temperature for the month of April in the last 17 years.
Titlagarh is about 450 kms from Bhubaneswar and is the hottest town in India, according to the weather department.
With a population of 60,000 people approximately, Titlagarh also faces a lot of power cuts and low-voltage issues. Till 11 in the morning, even on weekdays, the streets of Titlagarh usually remain empty with not even stray dogs wandering around. People try to finish their daily chores by 10 am and usually venture out only after sundown at 6 pm.
Titlagarh is locally known as Tatlagarh or sizzling place for being a heat island. It ranks among the hottest places in the country. The town recorded 50.1 degrees celsius on June 3, 2003.
