Rewari: The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme may have completed its one year in the country, but 40 'betis' in Haryana do not seem to have benefitted from the scheme.
As per reports 40 girls and 10 boys from two villages in Rewari district of Haryana got their names deleted from the rolls of their school in Lala village. Two out of the 40 girls are state-level kabaddi players.
An alleged rape on April 18 forced the parents of the students to stop them from attending school outside the village. The girls fear traversing through Lala village because of repeated sexual harassment and have to put up with rude comments nearly every day.
Following the April 18 case, a case has been registered at Jatusana police station in Rewari and three of the accused have been arrested.
State women and child development minister Kavita Jain has asked Rewari deputy commissioner Yash Garg to conduct an immediate inquiry.
The villagers, worried about the safety of the girls, have arranged for classes to be held in the primary school of the village. They are even trying to recruit teachers till class 10.
Rao Narbir Singh the state PWD minister has promised the villagers who met him saying, "We will upgrade the school."
The state administration has also offered special bus facility along with female cops who will accompany the girls to the school in the neighbouring village. Rewari DC Yash Garg says that they have assured the villagers that a police patrol will be deployed near the school.
Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi had recently launched the 'Raksha app'. She had also announced her decision of including a "panic button" in all phones sold in India. All we can hope is that these facilities are able to reach people in all corners of our nation.
