Tamil Nadu polls: Karunanidhi slams Jayalalithaa over freebies

Chennai: Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi slammed All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Chief Jayalalithaa for promising freebies to voters.
The DMK Chief said, “Jayalalithaa is not doing this from heart but she is doing it to cheat people.”
On Monday, Pattali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) CM candidate Anbumani Ramadoss also voiced his opinion against providing freebies and said that it was wrong to give household stuff, TVs, mobiles phones and other things to lure the public into voting. Instead, one should focus on providing jobs, better health care and education.
Interestingly, it is strange that leader a like Karunanidhi who has promised free 3G/4G connection in its poll manifesto in the run up to the assembly elections, has slammed Jayalalithaa.
However, Tamil Nadu elections has been always the war of ‘freebies’, therefore suddenly Karunanidhi trying to play a moral high ground sounds a bit ironic.
