‘Suspected bookie’ Karan Gilhotra also clicked with Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar & Salman Khan

NEW DELHI: The ICC-BCCI fight took an ugly turn on Monday after the Indian Board’s Secretary Anurag Thakur shot a powerful letter to ICC Chairman N Srinivasan after the former’s images with an alleged bookie Karan Gilhotra were made public.

However, reports claim that Thakur is not the only one to have been clicked with the supposed bookie as the list includes some well-known names.

According to media reports, Gilhotra socializes with several bureaucrats, Bollywood celebrities and even cricketers and has been spotted in some pictures with likes of Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Salman Khan.

Well, keeping that in consideration, it would certainly be interesting to see if the stand of the ICC for those big names will also remain the same as against Anurag Thakur.

In his reply to the letter from ICC, Thakur took to Twitter on Monday as he not only questioned the investigation by ICC but also shared the letter he shared with Srinivasan where he even took a jibe at the ICC Chairman stating that Srinivasan has not been able to reconcile with his election as BCCI Secretary.

Asking Srinivasan to share the list of ‘unverified suspected bookies’ with him and other BCCI officials, Thakur did not skip the chance to remind Srinivasan about the ‘proven involvement’ of his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan in betting.

“I only wish that you had shared the list of unverified suspected bookies with me and other colleagues so that we can could identify such persons and keep away from them,” Thakur wrote in the letter.

“You may also share this information with your family members, whose involvement in betting has been proved,” he added.

Speaking about his picture with Gilhotra, Thakur explained, “I have known this person who has been active in the political and cricketing activities in Punjab and adjacent states. I had no knowledge or any clue about his ‘activities as a suspected bookie’.”

38-year-old Gilhotra comes from a small village Ghaniani near Fazilka in Punjab. He reportedly is named in the Limca Book of Records for being the youngest sarpanch in India at the age of 21 years and four months.

A media report also claims that Thakur who reportedly has ‘ a close affiliation with the SAD, the political party in power in Punjab’ moved to Chandigarh a few years back where he owns the dealership of Honda and franchise of ‘Being Human’, a brand initiated by actor Salman Khan.
