Tirupur: Three trucks carrying Rs 570 crore were seized by the electoral officials on Saturday at a check-post in the Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu.

During a routine check, the cash was seized by the paramilitary forces and the flying squad of the election department on the Perumanallur-Kunnathur Bypass.

The people carrying the money said that they were transferring the amount from Coimbatore’s branch of State Bank of India to that of the State Bank of India Vishakhapatnam branch. However, they were not in possession of the necessary documents to carry out such a transfer.

During the police check the cars accompanying the tankers did not halt and had to be chased down and stopped. The people in the car claimed that they belonged to Andhra Pradesh police but none of them were in uniform.

As they were unable to produce proper documents for the transfer, the vehicles were seized and taken to the District Collectorate in Tirupur.
