Telangana: The Telangana government on Saturday approved the doubling of the constituency development fund for MLAs and MLCs in the state of Telangana from Rs 1.50 crore to Rs 3 crore per annum.
This 100% hike in funds from Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao is said to be the highest in the country for MLAs and MLCs.
Earlier, the MLAs had to seek the approval of the District Minister and could only propose works for 50% of these total hike in funds. This steep hike will not only entail for more personal utilisation of funds for the ministers, it will also ensure that the MLCs and the MLAs have full utilisation of these funds.
Since the Centre gives Rs 5 crore to an MP who represents as many as 7 assembly constituencies in his or her parliamentary constituency, this hike in funds granted by KCR is said to be the highest in the country.
MLAs earlier used to get Rs 75 lakhs from the government with the added requirement of seeking approval from the DM for proposed works.
Telangana is witnessing its severest form of drought in recent times. This hefty rocketing of ministers' fund will negate the state's effort to alleviate the situation of the people of Telangana.
