Parents in their late seventies or early eighties

New Delhi: Rural villages in Haryana and Punjab are gradually witnessing some change and that is indeed for life. In order to experience the parenthood and have a legal heir, farmers in these areas are turning to gynaecological procedures to become parents in their late seventies or early eighties.
Daljinder Kaur and her 79-year-old husband have now become parents following two years of treatment at a clinic in the northern state of Haryana.
Rajo Devi, 78, has a seven-year-old daughter with husband Bala Ram, who too is of the same age. In her seventies, Chameli Devi is a celebrity of sorts. The village of Budain and those surrounding it in Jind district know the lady as mother of eight-year-old twins Mansi and Manish.
Amritsar's 79-year-old Mohinder Singh Gill and wife Daljinder Kaur had been childless in their 46 years of marriage. But when they came across a Haryana-based fertility clinic's ad, they decided to take another shot at parenthood with IVF treatment.
On the contrary, the medical council is seeking to pass a bill that bans fertility treatment for women aged 50 and above in India, citing health concerns.
