Polling postponed in Tanjavur and Aravakurich

Chennai: Only a few hours before the polling was set commence in the state of Tamil Nadu, Election Commission, late on Sunday night, announced that elections in Thanjavur and Aravakurichi will be postponed to Wednesday.
The EC’s decision came after a huge amount of cash was confiscated which was allegedly for distribution to the voters by political parties and their candidates, hampering the electoral process.
"The polling in the constituency has been deferred so that the vitiating effect of the money power created by the distribution of money and gifts to electors loses its intensity and a more congenial atmosphere conducive to the conduct of free and fair election is created," said an EC official.
Counting of votes will take place on Wednesday 25 May.
