New Delhi: A 23-year-old girl and her male friend were allegedly attacked by a group of eve teasers with a beer bottle in Amar Colony in the early hours of Monday.
The incident took place around 1 a.m. when the young journalism student was dropped near her house by her friend. "Two youths drinking out in the open passed some lewd remarks," the girl’s friend said.
"When she threatened to call the police, the youths called two to three other boys and allegedly attacked the two," the friend added. The girl claimed they were hit with a beer bottle on their head.
“She was pinned to the ground and they kept assaulting her. The boy somehow managed to free himself and called the police. But even after waiting for half an hour, no police vehicle or personnel arrived at the scene,” the friend said, adding that the accused fled after the assault.
The girl also alleged that when the police finally arrived, they convinced her to submit a statement saying she did not want to file a case.
While the police denied “tutoring” the victim, they recorded a fresh statement several hours later and registered a case of assault following incessant media questioning.
