New Delhi: Retorting to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's remark about the Congress Party's leaders lacking stature, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that it was an "absurd proposition" and claimed that Congress had a pan-india presence.
After the Congress Party suffered a heavy defeat in its once-stronghold Assam, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley remarked that the dynasty of Congress was 'stagnating'.
"Without the dynasty, you are irrelevant. That is the problem of the Congress," said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister. Jaitley also added that Congress was devoid of high-stature leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
Countering Jaitley's view on the subject, Shashi Tharoor said that Jaitley's proposition was absurd and that Congress, wherever it has lost states, prevails as a principal alternative in those states.
"It is still the one party which has pan-India presence, from north to the south to the west to the north-east. Everywhere you can find the Congress Party," said Tharoor.
