DMK hold exec committee meet over loss

Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) held an executive committee meeting on Tuesday morning at the headquarters in Chennai.

The apparent reason for the meeting is the party’s unexpected loss in the recently concluded Assembly Elections 2016. The party will also discuss the next steps in the meeting.

Karunanidhi-led DMK suffered an upsetting defeat in the elections where, beating all odds and proving all exit polls wrong, Jayalalithaa rewrote history by breaking a three-decade long cycle of anti-incumbency and retaining power despite DMK’s efforts.

Jayalalithaa, or Amma, as she is fondly referred to, won 134 of the 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The three-time Chief Minister also became the first after Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran to be elected to two continuous terms.
