IIM-A graduates enraged as Flipkart offers 'peanuts' for delayed hiring

IIM-A grads enraged over Flipkart's offer

New Delhi: Days after promising jobs to the Indian Institute of Management graduates, online giant Flipkart sent an e-mail to the institute mentioning that students who were promised jobs starting June cannot begin to work till December.
In an email to IIM-Ahmedabad sent on Wednesday, Flipkart wrote that it is in the middle of a restructuring exercise which must be completed before student hires can be accommodated. "This was a difficult decision for us to arrive at and we feel the disappointment of students. At the same time, it is important for us to land our campus hires into Flipkart at the right time and into meaningful roles which gives them opportunity to learn and grow," the email said.
Following this mail, a huge disappointment was seen amongst the students who are now saying they have missed a lot of other offers because they were selected for this particular company.
IIM-Ahmedabad had written this week to Flipkart top boss Binny Bansal, asking that the company to honour its commitment and start paying the students it has recruited from June, partly because they have loans to pay. Flipkart has rejected that, but says the students will get a Rs. 1.5 lakh bonus when they do start work.
The institute has echoed the students' voice citing that the compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh offered by Flipkart is"utterly unacceptable." IIM-A has urged for a monthly payment as compensation, starting June and not a lump sum amount as joining bonus or arrears as students need to repay loans.
